The sequel to the beloved musical brings timeless ABBA songs back to the screen. Set against the stunning scenery of the island of Vis, with a star-studded cast including Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Amanda Seyfried, and Lily James, the movie brings a vibrant summer atmosphere full of music, romance, and joy to audiences.
The island of Vis and Croatia gained worldwide popularity after the first trailer for Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! was released. As a follow-up to the iconic Broadway musical, the movie captured the audience’s hearts with unforgettable songs and stellar performances by Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, and others.
Filming took place over 24 days on Vis, with the collaboration of over 270 Croatian film professionals and extras, further raising the island's profile.
Below, you’ll find a guide to some of the most iconic locations where this film was shot:
Vis Harbor: The lively scenes where nearly everyone arriving on the island interacts with the local customs officer were filmed at the Vis Harbor, where much of the movie’s storyline begins.
Greek Market – Vis: This colorful market appears often in the movie. It’s here that Donna buys a new dress and Sam searches for Donna. In reality, this "Greek" market is located in Vis town, with scenes filmed around the entrance of Dionis Pizzeria and the surrounding stairs. Fun fact: To create authenticity, the film crew imported all fruits and foods from Greece to stock the market stalls.
Beach Scenes – Barjoška Bay: Most beach scenes, including moments when visitors arrive on the island and young Donna first steps ashore, were filmed in Barjoška Bay, which became a central setting. Fun fact: New paths and roads were constructed in Barjoška Bay specifically for the film.
St. Jerome’s Church: In this scene, young Donna and Bill help local fisherman Alexio reach the church to marry his love. The church seen in the background is St. Jerome’s, located in Prirovo, a Franciscan monastery just minutes from Vis Harbor, adding a unique charm to this romantic story.
Greek Tavern – Komiža: Harry and Bill enjoy dinner at a Greek tavern where they meet Alexio the fisherman. Although it’s depicted as a Greek tavern in the movie, it is actually Jastožera, a popular restaurant in Komiža, known for its cuisine and beautiful setting.
Dance Scene – Barjaci Bay: The iconic dance scene featuring ABBA’s famous song was filmed in Barjaci, just north of Barjoška Bay. Once a military fort during Yugoslavia, it’s now a popular spot where visitors can enjoy the scenery along with the film’s memorable melodies.
