If you want to "take a break" from lounging on the beach, swimming, kayaking, hiking, or exploring the island, you can spend your evenings at various cultural events that mostly take place during the summer months.
You can listen to klapa music, dance at a modern music concert, watch performances by local amateur theater groups or guest actors, enjoy a film at the legendary open-air cinema, or join one of the art colonies.
Festivals and Events
Vis Cultural Summer (Viško kulturno ljeto) lasts sixty days during the tourist season. Various events take place in different locations (in squares, old fortresses, churches, wine cellars, the Vis waterfront, by the sea, and in villages), including educational, cultural-artistic, entertainment, and culinary events. With so many concerts, performances, promotions, and exhibitions, there is something for everyone.
Fishermen's Night; In the town of Komiža, Fishermen's Night is held on the first Saturday of August. You can taste numerous fish dishes and wine from the island of Vis for free.
Vis Night is a celebration that always takes place on the last Saturday of July in different parts of the town of Vis. Besides Dalmatian music, visitors can enjoy plenty of food and drinks and interesting traditional games.
Feast of the Patron Saint; Locals celebrate the Feast of St. George on April 23rd. St. George is the patron saint of the town of Vis.
Vis Regatta; a traditional regatta that takes place on the second weekend in October. It attracts more than 1,000 sailors each year. The regatta officially marks the end of the tourist season. During this time, there is a rich cultural and entertainment program organized over the entire weekend.
Vis Swimming Marathon; for many years, the traditional swimming marathon has been held in the second half of August. The event is accompanied by a rich gastronomic offer.
Night of Mijurovc has been held for several years at the end of August in the part of the town of Vis of the same name, located to the right of the ferry port. It is a true folk festival that is very popular with both locals and tourists.
Big Game Fishing: Komiža hosts an international qualifying competition in sport fishing - Big Game. The qualifying competition takes place over three fishing days at sea. All participants and visitors can enjoy a rich entertainment program with performances by well-known artists, an awards ceremony, a group dinner, fireworks, a fair of indigenous island products, and a fair of fishing and nautical equipment. Competitors from 8 countries usually participate, along with several dozen boats and many crew members.
Children's Mini Football Tournament St. George - Vis: To celebrate St. George and the Day of the City of Vis, NK “Vis” organizes traditional Street Matches in the town of Vis for elementary school students from Vis and Komiža and holds the children's mini football tournament St. George Vis. Besides NK “Vis” as the home team, other teams from various parts of Croatia are welcome, as well as tourists. Matches are played on three fields in the town of Vis.
Poetry Evening in the Green Cave: This event, themed around the sea, places, and love, has been held in Rukavac and the Green Cave on Ravnik since 2000. It started as a competition in fishing activities in Rukavac and an evening of songs and poetry in the Green Cave. Over time, it has evolved into a combination of an evening of songs, poetry, and a fishing festival. Boats filled with guests sail to the Green Cave, where mainly klapa songs are sung, and poetry is read. Upon returning to Rukavac, a small fishing party begins.

Sabatina is a traditional celebration that takes place during the first November holidays, marking the end of the olive and grape harvest. For this purpose, a language program is held in Podšpilje, featuring various island klapa groups, singers, and poets. A dance is also organized at the Cooperative House.
Museum Night is an event that started in 2005, organized by six Zagreb museums. The goal of the event is to bring museum content closer to the public, especially young people. The event takes place on the last Friday in January from 6 PM to 1 AM. Entrance to the museum is free, and all visitors can enjoy concerts, performances, and promotions.
