The island of Vis and Croatia became a popular global destination after the release of the first trailer for Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!, the sequel to the famous Broadway musical that thrilled audiences with its unforgettable melodies and outstanding cast, including Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan.
The filming of Mamma Mia 2 lasted 24 days and involved more than 270 Croatian film professionals and extras, further increasing the island’s international recognition.
Below, explore some of the most iconic filming locations featured in the movie.
Ferry Port – Vis
The scene where almost everyone arriving on the island speaks with the border officer was filmed in the town port of Vis. This lively location was a key point where the stories of the characters began to unfold.
Greek Market – Vis
The colorful Greek market appears frequently in the film. It’s where Donna buys a new dress and Sam searches for her—among many other scenes. In reality, this "Greek" market is located in the town of Vis. The doors of the Dionis pizzeria and the surrounding stairs leading up to the market were central filming spots. Fun fact: the production team imported all the fruits and dishes from Greece to ensure authenticity.
Church of St. Jerome – Vis
Young Donna and Bill help the local fisherman Alexio reach the church where he plans to marry. The church seen in the background is St. Jerome’s, located on the Prirovo peninsula at the Franciscan monastery—just a few minutes’ walk from the port of Vis. This location added a special romantic charm to the story.

Beach – Barjoška Cove: Most of the beach scenes, including the characters' arrival on the island and the moment young Donna first steps ashore, were filmed in Barjoška Cove. This cove became the central filming location, a testament to its natural beauty.
Fun fact: New roads and paths were built in Barjoška Cove specifically for the filming.
Greek Taverna – Komiža: Harry and Bill have dinner at a Greek taverna where they meet the fisherman Alexio. The taverna offers a stunning view of the beach. In reality, it is the Jastožera restaurant in Komiža – not a Greek taverna, but still captivating with its cuisine and atmosphere.
Dance Scene – Barjaci Cove: The biggest performance of the famous ABBA song was filmed in Barjaci, north of Barjoška Cove. During the Yugoslav era, this area served as a military stronghold, but today it is a popular tourist destination where visitors can enjoy breathtaking views and iconic melodies.
